XR Testing

Whitebox testing

We had to test the XR experience prototype that we made in styly. Because of this we could get feedback from our peers to beter our prototypes. This also helps to make a better experience with our real VR experience concepts. After that we had to make a powerpoint to show the class the feedback we got.

This has learned us how to test and different ways to test.

VR testing

We had to test our real VR experience concepts. This way we learn how to test a VR experience and different ways to test. After the testing we had to fill in a document on a miro board and share things with the class.

By doing this we learned how to test a VR experience in different ways. Because everyones concept was different.

First test – Frist environment, teleportation and gesture recognition

For this testing phase we had an environment, teleportation with hand tracking and gesture recognition that edited an avatar. We had someone play around in the experience and afterwards we would interview them. The goal of this test was to know what people where feeling when wandering in our environment and if they knew what the hand tracking did and how it felt.

Our main question where:
– What kind of feeling do you get when you look around?
– How do you feel within the world?
– Do you feel too small within the world?
– Do the hand gestures respond well to what you want to do?
– Is it clear what is happening based on what you are doing?
– Is the “fashion” clearly recognizable in the environment?

The conclusions were:
– The teleportation with hand tracking was too sensitive.
– The world was too big, but because everything was so big it felt kind of normal. So the consitency was good.
– the fashion feeling was not sufficiently present.
– The enlarging and reduction of the avatar should be done by other means than gesture recognition.
– The grass movement was weird.

Second testing – New environment and grabbing clothes

We had a new environment and we could now grab objects. These are also the things we wanted to test. We let someone into the world and let them do what they thought they can do. We let them think out loud and if they had question we would answer them. After that we would let them fill in a form.

There were a few points that stood out:

  • Lighting – spotlight, playing with light, play with lighting
  • Grab gesture for grabbing (instead of pinching)
  • Everyone tries to wear the shirt themselves instead of putting it on the character
  • Doing sound in the next sprint
  • Remove collision from body

These are the answers:

Third time testing

This was the first time we did testing with controllers instead of handtracking. We wanted to know if people liked handtracking better or controllers. We also scaled down the world and wanted to know what people thought about the scale of the world and if they were missing something. Sound was also in the scene and we wanted to know what people thought about it. And we wanted to know how long it took people before they knew what to do. The time where people knew what to do was around the 1 minute 50. People liked controllers more because you don’t have accidental actions. There was also someone that wanted a carousel in the scene for the clothing and we took that to heart. The background music fitted the scene and was relaxing. All in all we had a lot of feedback that was good and a few things we could do beter.

Fourth testing friday

Here we also wanted to test how long it took before someone knew what you had to do. We wanted to see if onboarding was neccesary, after all the tests we saw that it was indeed neccesary. We had one person testing that never did anything with VR before and this was the most important person for us to test because our target-group are people who never have done anything with VR before. Our main goal also wasn’t reached yet. People didn’t feel inspired because the clothes felt static and sometimes it didn’t fit the avatar. This was something we had to work on because this is our final goal. We also had text but because it was big in your face and there was a black background it ruined the immersion.

Last testing nr 5

This was the last time testing. But after this all the feedback would be for the transfer document and not for making adjustments. We also had the teachers come in to give one last round of feedback. Everyone was happy that it was a full experience. Some things were a little buggy and the framerate was not that good. But all in all it was a good experience.
